Should I use peel-and-stick or click-lock vinyl in my Ottawa basement?

Both products are 100% waterproof at the surface level, which makes vinyl a smart pick for basements in general. The difference comes down to how they perform underneath and how forgiving they are over time. Peel-and-stick vinyl (also called self-adhesive vinyl tile) bonds directly to your concrete slab. That sounds convenient, but Ottawa's seasonal humidity swings — humid summers, dry winters — cause concrete to expand and contract slightly. Over time, this can break the adhesive bond, causing tiles to lift at the edges, especially near exterior walls or in areas with any residual moisture vapour coming through the slab.

Click-lock LVP floats freely over the subfloor, meaning it moves with the concrete rather than fighting it.
