What is a weeping tile system?

A weeping tile system is a drainage system installed around your home's foundation to collect and redirect groundwater away from the basement walls, preventing water infiltration and foundation damage.

The term "weeping tile" is actually a bit of a misnomer - modern systems use perforated plastic pipes rather than the clay tiles originally used decades ago. These perforated drainage pipes are installed at the base of your foundation footings, typically 4-6 feet below ground level in Ottawa due to our frost line depth. The pipes are surrounded by graded gravel that acts as a filter, allowing water to flow toward the pipes while preventing soil and debris from clogging the system.
